The Role of Healthcare Organisations in Combating Pandemic
The world faces no greater threat today than the NOVEL CORONAVIRUS.
Battling a pandemic as severe as COVID- 19 demands immediate measures,
effective equipment and medicines. The role of healthcare organizations comes
into being more than ever. The World Health Organisation has been at the heart of
the battle against Coronavirus. It has been working closely with the governments
around the world to provide support to the national health systems, as they are the
first line of defense against the pandemic.
Medical Teams consisting of highly trained professionals have been sent by
WHO to places identified as emergency zones. Besides this, the WHO has trained
millions of health workers through its online Open WHO platform. It has shipped
more than two million Personal Protective Equipment to nearly 126 countries. PPE
is essential to ensure health professionals are able to save lives, including their
own.
Healthcare organizations have played a key role in busting down dangerous
myths and providing accurate information about the virus. Many social media and
tech companies including Instagram and LinkedIn are working closely with WHO
to aid the flow of reliable information coming from health specialists and scientists
across the globe.
And what is it that we all are awaiting? The COVID-19 vaccine, of course!
The WHO has developed research protocols, which are being followed by almost
all the countries conducting tests for the vaccine. A conference of the leading
scientists, funders and manufacturers was also conducted by the WHO, in order to
corral all the efforts taking place.
Thus, it is just to say that the role of Healthcare Organizations amidst the
pandemic is of utmost importance. The robust public health capabilities and
infrastructure of these organizations are the foundation of a global health risk
framework. These health organizations continue to work tirelessly towards their
aim of making the world a healthier and happier place to live in. The Director
General of the WHO, Dr. Tedros Adhanom has rightfully said that:
“Global Health Security is only as strong as its weakest link.
No one is safe until everyone is safe.”
